Past
BackgroundI grew up in Port Townsend, Washington, on the Olympic Peninsula.
As a kid, I did many sports, particularly soccer, track and field, and competitive gymnastics. I started playing the violin when I was 4 years old, and I later participated in several orchestras and began composing my own music. I was highly involved in the community through service clubs at Port Townsend High School, as well as through participation in town events such as the annual 7.5-mile Rhody Run. I am very adventuresome, and I have done a lot of outdoor exploration with my family, including hiking, biking, and camping in areas all around Washington state and the country, as well as kayaking and sailing in Port Townsend Bay. When I was in 4th grade, we did a 4-day backpacking trip to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back up! I enjoying reflecting and expressing my creativity through writing, painting, and music. I also enjoy learning science, languages, and modern world history. Ever since I can remember, I've been curious to understand how the world works. |
Growing up in a small town of about 9,000 people definitely had its perks - from being able to bike across in town in 10 minutes to running into friends anytime I went somewhere - but it also made me hungry for a more urban and diverse experience of the world . . . which led me to Seattle and the University of Washington!
