"We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us." - Joseph Campbell
My coursework and experiences in the Global Health, Neurobiology, and Honors pathways have taught me how to think critically and creatively about society, culture, science, and life. I have learned how to approach and understand foreign ideas, ask questions that may reveal new perspectives, and reflect on my own biases and limitations created by the institutionalized way of thinking within various disciplines and environments. This will allow me to be competent, compassionate, and open-minded as I continue to develop personally and professionally with the goal of making progress in myself and in my community.
In August 2014, I will start medical school at UW. I would like to have a career working in underserved communities in the specialty of hematology/oncology or family medicine. I am also interested in pursuing scientific research to improve disease treatments or implementation research to improve healthcare systems and programs. Below is my personal statement.
