Electrical Engineering 299 (H):
|
For my first class at UW, I got to write a science fiction story with the prompt of choosing a technological field, reviewing its recent history, and then extrapolating into the future to the year 2020 (which seemed really far away at the time). After visiting an electrical engineering lab as part of the class, I chose to focus my story on Brain-Machine Interfaces to further investigate the ideas I'd seen in the lab, as well as my personal interest in neurobiology. I also love creative writing, so this was a fun way for me to integrate the process of researching a scientific field together with the more artistic task of writing a narrative that presents this field in the form of a story. I was absolutely fascinated by the possibilities I learned about in the field of neurobiology, and so this assignment was instrumental in directing me toward the neurobiology major.
